Aegis small Aegis was formed from the remnants of the WWII group known as The Watch. With the Roswell incident in 1944 and the breaking of The Watch, Aegis was formed. Aegis’ mission is to stand up against a single, unprecedented threat: alien invasion. Aegis stands as the United States’ first line of defence against the alien menace. Aegis agents are instructed that whatever else happens, whatever missions they undertake, they should never forget that Aegis’ primary mission is the defence of the nation against her foes, whoever they might be. When a new operative, agent, or researcher joins a cell, he swears an oath. He promises to hold his tongue, never to reveal to the public the truth about the war that threatens us all. He also swears to protect that same public from this insidious threat, no matter what the cost, personally or publicly. Joining Aegis is like joining an army. It means that you are willing to put your life, your livelihood, and your reputation on the line in order to save your people and your country.
Aegis is organized in a cell based structure. Each cell is free to carry out it’s own investigations and interpret Aegis’ goals as they see fit. This does not mean that cells have free reign. They are closely watched by their parent cell and ultimately by Aegis Prime. From time to time they may be assigned a mission by their parent cell and are expected to carry it out to the best of their abilities. Each cell is also free to create child cells. Occasionally a child cell will request help from their parent cell, which may or may not be granted. Members of each cell normally only know one or two members of their parent cell and the members of any child cells they create. In this way Aegis maintains it’s security as no one person knows too much about the organization. Cells instead share information through their HERMES links. It is critical that cells file timely reports to HERMES to prevent contact and even confrontation between cells.
Aegis’ is not the only secret agency operating in the United States that is aware of the existence of the aliens. Their main rival is the < National Defense Directorate (NDD)>, most often referred to by Aegis agents as The Black Book. The Black Book is another offshoot of The Watch. Instead of combating the alien threat, they have made deals with the aliens in exchange for advanced technology.
AEGIS GOALS
The primary goal currently mandated by Aegis Prime is the conclusive determination of the true goals and motivations of the various alien races currently operating on Earth. Aegis Prime ultimately hopes to determine how much of a threat these races pose to the continued prosperity of the human race. Aegis’ secondary objective is to learn as much as possible about the aliens’ physiology, technology, and psychology and to develop weapons capable of exploiting any weaknesses discovered. In the event that the alien threat cannot be neutralized peacefully, Aegis wants an immediate and effective strike-force capacity. All Aegis cells have standing orders when investigating aliens. If a clear level of threat or motivation cannot be estimated, the cell is to assume a hostile intent and neutralize, by any and all means, the alien presence.
Aegis sees the supernatural as a relatively minor menace. Indeed, it is seen as a potential weapon to be exploited in the fight against the aliens. With regard to supernatural manifestations, Aegis Prime has made it clear that emphasis should be placed on investigation and research, rather than eradication.
